We offer the chance for musicians to enjoy orchestral playing together on a regular basis, including performance in public concerts. We aim to provide an inclusive and supportive environment for anyone keen to experience and contribute to music-making in a friendly group. We welcome adult learners and returners who want a place in which to make progress.
We play a wide variety of music, mainly drawn from the classical and romantic repertoire but also including more modern works with wide appeal.
We also need members to be involved with the administration of the orchestra. We are small in scale, but need a variety of important skills such as librarianship, web site maintenance, book-keeping and (not least) organisation and thoughtful leadership. Our relationships with other organisations in and around Winchester such as schools, churches and charities are vital to the orchestra; their renewal through members’ personal relationships helps sustain the orchestra. So, if you can help with these supporting activities, please let us know.

We do not hold formal auditions for new members, but in order to gain the most enjoyment we suggest a minimum playing standard of Associated Board Grade 6 for wind and Grade 5 for strings, or equivalent practical experience. The orchestra is led by players with more experience.
Check the vacancies to see if there is one for you, and if so, fill out the membership application form to apply to join.
The membership subscription is £150 per year which can be prorated for mid-year joiners. We welcome players for 3 weeks trial free of charge.
